Meg 2: The Trench – Made at WBSL

Meg 2: The Trench, the sequel to the popular 2018 blockbuster The Meg, is out now in cinemas across the UK. Directed by Ben Wheatley and Produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery, the production caused quite the splash when it filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden last year. The film was one of the first to use both our interior and exterior tanks for water filming, turning them into spectacular submarine and rig sets, with further filming taking place across 4 of our sound stages. Warner Bros. Set Lighting and Rigging supported the lighting team with impressive lighting sets on all stage, backlot, and interior tank filming.

Production Design was headed up by Chris Lowe, who’s impressive resume includes No Time To Die, Captain America: The First Avenger and Skyfall. The production used the Studios creatively, even turning a parking lot into a shooting location for intricate action sequences in the Cabana, with water later being added by VFX. This provided the production the advantage of maintaining continuity of the sunny weather/environment and the reliability of not filming on water. All of the underwater filming took place on our indoor tank on D Stage, which is 6m deep and 20m wide.

With Jason Statham returning to the franchise in the lead role, the plot follows Jonas Taylor as he leads a research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high stakes battle for survival.

We loved being home to this action-packed feature. Congratulations to all the cast and crew who brought this production to life.
