THE GARFIELD MOVIE – MIXED AT WARNER BROS. DE LANE LEA

Love lasagna and hate Mondays? Then you’re in luck! After a total of 8 years in production, The Garfield Movie is out now in cinemas across UK.  The animated comedy-adventure film was directed by Mark Dindal, with producers John Cohen, Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, Steven P. Wegner, Craig Sost and Namit Malhotra also being heavily involved in the project.

We were privileged to work on the sound post-production for this production, which was sound mixed by Academy-award winning re-recording mixer Chris Burdon and Johnathan Rush.

Here is what Johnathan Rush had to say about working on Garfield:

  • How did it feel to be working on a project with such a pre-established history and recognisable IP? Were there any positives or challenges that came up as a result of this?

It was great to work on The Garfield Movie with it being so well known and such an iconic character. I remember I used to watch the cartoon when I was growing up and it’s now great seeing my kid’s getting enjoyment from watching it too.

  • Were there any other internal or external collaborators you worked with on this project? What did they bring to the table?

We were working with Jeremy Price, Ben Meechan, & Luke Gentry, our 3 sound supervisors who provided us with some fantastic tracks to help bring the Garfield Movie to life.

  • What are the differences between working on animated projects to live footage?

The main difference for me when mixing FX is instead of using sound effects to support the sync sound, we get to create the “entire sound world” for all the different locations, vehicles and some crazy machines (especially the cheese factory) which I feel really brings the film to life.

  • What was the best part of working on this movie?

The best part had to be seeing the film evolve from some hand drawn sketches on screen to a wonderful film that draws you in both with lovely picture and the extremely immersive Dolby Atmos soundtrack we created.

  • How would you describe the final film in 3 words?

Cute, Funny & Unpredictable.

With Chris Pratt helming the role of Garfield, the plot focuses on a high-stakes heist that occurs when Garfield has an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father (Samuel L. Jackson)

Many congratulations to our friends and colleagues who worked so hard to bring this film to our screens.
